5th Grade CA State Physical Fitness Test (PFT)

The California State Physical Fitness Test (PFT) is required for all 5th-grade students statewide. This mandatory assessment will be administered by the Physical Education (PE) teacher during scheduled class time this school year.

PFT Components

The California State Physical Fitness Test consists of six key components designed to measure overall physical health and fitness:
  • Mile Run (Aerobic Capacity)
  • Back Saver Sit-and-Reach (Flexibility)
  • Push-ups (Upper Body Strength)
  • Curl-ups / Sit-ups (Abdominal Strength)
  • Trunk Extension (Trunk Strength)
  • Body Mass Index (BMI) (Height and Weight Ratio)

Preparation and Support

Students will be introduced to the six components and given time to practice and prepare during their regular PE classes throughout the year.
We strongly encourage parents to support their child's preparation by:
  • Encouraging Practice at Home: Simple practice, like light jogging or doing sit-ups, can be beneficial.
  • Providing Positive Support: Your encouragement and teamwork are greatly appreciated and directly impact your child’s confidence and success!
